Battersea’s two teams in the inaugural Summer Chess League are in the running to take the title.

After last night’s results, the Volts and the Amps are both locked on 6 points along with the East London Knights after four rounds of the competition.

The Volts had made the early running going into round 4 with a 100 per cent record, but faltered 2.5-3.5 against a strong Knights side who heavily outgraded them on the lower boards.

Meanwhile, the Amps inflicted yet more misery on Hammersmith’s teams, who occupy the bottom two places, with a 3.5-2.5 win over Totally Hammered.

The result of the night was a win for newboy Rayan Balluz who, despite being ungraded, dispatched 155ECF-rated Mo Islam.
