Friday 3 November marked the thirtieth anniversary of Bill Drennan’s first ever match at Battersea. This was duly celebrated with a few drinks at a local hostelry (Bill is pictured on the left in the photo above with Charles Cronin and Arnold Hunt).

Bill’s first ever opponent for Battersea was Nobel prize winning scientist, the late Sir Bernard Katz.  Unsurprisingly when faced with such genius, Bill succumbed on that occasion, but in his time at the club he has

  • won the club championship
  • captained teams on many occasions, including three promotions and another League title
  • often scored highly for the club (e.g. in the two seasons between 1996-98 he won 22 games and lost 4, and in early 2014 got 9.5 from 11 games, helping him towards his highest rating of 162).

In addition to playing for Battersea, Bill has played in congresses in France, Germany and the USA as well as many in the UK, which have  included several tournament victories.

There are more pictures below of the celebration night out.
