Don't give up rural charms for metropolitan excitements...
We outgraded Metropolitan 4 on paper and the correct result was reached. Well done everybody. I was too completely absorbed in my own game to observe what everyone else was playing so can only make general comments on the team's performance. Simon (Baxter-Cummings) proved equal to his third board position by turning in an early win against Mr Leman. Bill and David - my refugees (for this season only perhaps - don't do too well guys or Richard will be after you to join his unruly band again) from the first team continue their excellent progress up the charts. Amiable newcomer Domenico turned in another splendid performance - he is unbeaten so far in the second team. Martin will be glad to have sorted out the tricky Vince Brady on board 7 - Mr Brady soared from 69 last season to 103 this season and he knows what he's doing. During a friendly session last year he demonstrated the forced mate with bishop and knight against the lone king - and got it right first time - similarly with the Lucena position - he knew both sequences inside out - so it would not be a good idea to underestimate him. As for the adjourned games Adrian has the exchange and a pawn so hopefully can convert his to a win. Pete has a more difficult proposition: Material is equal. However, Pete's bishop could well prove better than his opponent's knight on the open board. A special thanks to Pete for standing in at short notice when Andy withdrew - get well soon Andy we have some difficult matches coming up.
