Battersea fought out a valiant draw last night in the second match of a pre-season double-header against Hammersmith.
The 15-board ECF-rated face-off at Battersea Labour Club ended 7.5-7.5 but could have swung either way in the final stages.
Both Howard Groves and Arnold Hunt had games that went right to the wire, but with one win and one loss in those games both teams ended all-square.
Three new players turned out for Battersea last night, Aldo’s sister Alessia Camilleri, Sam Bilson and Hayden March.
Alessia and Hayden both won on their debuts and there were also wins for Aldo, Arnold, Leon Watson and Joel Morales.
Paul Stokes and Alan Palmer, on boards two and three respectively, both drew.
It followed another tight match last Monday on Hammersmith’s home turf where Battersea went down 7-5.
Hammersmith must therefore take the spoils winning the two-match series 1.5-0.5.
