A new season has now started at Battersea Chess Club with one match already played in the Central London League.

We shall be fielding five teams in the London League and three in the Central London League.

The action steps up tomorrow with an all-Battersea affair, first team against second team in the First Division of the Central London League at the Battersea Labour Club and the following week sees another – the London League second team play the third team at the same venue in London League Division Three.

It will be the first time in at least thirty years that Battersea have had more than one team playing in the same Division of any League.

Chris Beckett will again be leading the London League first team in the first Division as they seek to go up the League following a narrow escape from relegation last season.

There will be the usual in-club competitions and it is likely that there will also be some special one-off events such as simultaneous displays and chess variant tournaments.

The club is currently more flourishing than it has been for many years and new members are most welcome – see How to Join for details.
