Handicap Tournament

Reasons to play:

 

·        By all accounts, there is a very nice trophy for the winner

·        Provides a chance for weaker players to get their own back

·        Fun, with sometimes surprising results

 

Rules

 

·        Knock-out tournament, with initial pairings drawn from a hat

·        Completion of tournament by end of July 2010

·        Handicaps are decided by the difference in BCF grades between the two opponents:

 

0 – 9               Start level, draw lots for colour

10 – 19           2 moves

20 – 29           King’s bishop pawn and 1 move

30 – 39           King’s bishop pawn and 2 moves

40 – 49           Queen’s knight

50 – 59           Queen’s knight and king’s bishop pawn

60 – 69           Queen’s rook

70 – 79           Queen’s rook and queen’s knight

80+                 Queen

 

·        Members entering the Handicap with no published BCF grading will be graded after consultation
