Derek Harvey on Countdown

I’ll have a consonant, a vowel, a consonant, another consonant, a vowel, another consonant. Another consonant, a vowel, and a final vowel please.

And what have you got? B-A-T-T-E-R-S-E-A!

Yes the club was mentioned on Channel 4’s tea-time favourite Countdown this week as Derek Harvey (ECF 133) showed off his words and numbers skills.

Derek explains he knew the meaning of “stoner”

Derek came up against current Countdown champion Maggie.

He got an eight-letter word with “importer” and raised a laugh with his six-letter word “stoner”.

At the end, the show’s host Nick Hewer said he was sure Derek would receive a “round of applause and a drink” when he goes back to Battersea Chess Club.

So, well done Derek – and yes, a drink is on the way.
