Four Battersea players battled hard at the London qualifier for the UK Open Blitz Championships 2018 on Saturday with Bao Nghia Dong narrowly missing out on place in the final.

Bao beat several top seeds including GM Stephen Gordon, IM Lorin D’Costa and FM Peter Sowray but finished just a half-point off the top two who go through. He did win a £50 consolation prize though.

Also taking part were Battersea young gun Shreyas Royal, ChessPatzerUK Jacques Tivillier and new signing Luis Sanchez.
