Battersea 2 won promotion to the London Chess League’s second tier with a dominant win over Wanstead & Woodford.

Wins for Tony Ashby, Tim Spanton, Paul Stokes, Conor Gay, Emil Todorow and Malcolm Dancy secured next season’s place in division 2 in an 8-2 rout.

With two games to go, Battersea’s second team are in pole position to win the title.

The promotion will see the club have teams in division 1 and 2 for the first time in decades.

How are our other teams doing?

Meanwhile, Battersea’s other teams continue their good form.

In division 6, Battersea MI are battling for the title. A win and a draw from their last two matches against the two Hackney teams in the division will guarantee glory.

A 2-2 draw with table-toppers Hackney this week leaves Battersea MA lying seventh with one to play.

And in division 4, Battersea 3 have narrowly missed out on promotion and sit third with their last match of the season on May 29.

When the season ends, Battersea will consider entering more teams in the league.
