Chess lovers, we have something very special on the cards for next Tuesday.

Battersea Chess Club is taking on burgeoning tribe of Chess Patzers led by their mysterious leader ChessPatzerUK in our first ever live Consultation Match.

Some people call the Chess Patzers a weird cult and say that ChessPatzerUK is some kind of David Koresh or Jim Jones. But at Battersea we are tolerant folk, and we will respect their freaky beliefs.

In essence this match will be one-part lecture one-part conglomeration – and it is going to be a lot of fun.

Whet your appetite? Let Aldo tell you all the details.

Who is it for?

Any and all Battersea Chess Club members. With special consideration for newer members and those looking to improve.

What is it all about?

Members are encouraged to participate from beginning to end of a two game match in search for the right moves collectively to what should be a high level chess effort. The contest will be played over the internet in real time and will have the live position up in front of us as well as an analysis board to work through variations. Players may also have their own boards in front of them and can work through ideas on their own. Any engine use is obviously forbidden. We don’t want it to be dominated by the club’s strongest players, unless it’s used to help others through the process. That’s the spirit of this event. Our ‘Captain of the Year’ Chris Beckett will be the person running the show our end and it will ultimately be his decision what moves are played.

Why?

We thought it would be interesting to bring the club together to produce a very high level game in a competiative format. Hopefully we’ll help to break down barriers between different levels of participants and help individuals to come across ideas they may not have come across if it was just their own game.

The Match:

A two game match. One white and one black. 30+30 time control. Chris Beckett (205 ECF) at the helm.

Our Opponents:

Battersea member Jacques Tivillier (154 ECF) aka ChessPatzerUK leads his merry band of chess patzers, including newest Battersea recruit Luiz Sanchez (183 ECF) and renowed chess organiser Adam Raoof (173 ECF), via an online stream. He’ll have his own methods for finding the best moves as we’ll have ours. Jacques’ video will go up on the website following the conclusion so you can see other side of the story.

What do you need to do?

Just show up. Move one will be played at 7.30pm on Tuesday 21st August. You could also send an email to Aldo with your intent to take part just so we have a feel for the numbers.

Note: Not advised for anyone to play serious/club matches during that evening as noise levels will be very apparent throughout.
