Exciting news: we have a full schedule for this week AND the club has entered three teams in the upcoming 4NCL Online league.

The new 4NCL league is replacing the over the board event due to the shutdown of chess.

A call for entrants was put out last week and more than 150 teams have put their names in – three of which are ours.

Our teams are:

  • Battersea Horses – in the top division captained by Blair Connell
  • Battersea Pawnbreakers – in a lower division captained by Tim Valentine
  • Battersea Howitzers – a junior team captained by GM David Howell

More details here: https://www.4ncl.co.uk/data/online_teams.htm. Captains will be in touch if/when they need players.

The first round will take place tomorrow at the same time as our club night (unfortunately) but those competing will hopefully join our arena when they’re finished.

Apart from that, we have a full schedule this week. Please note the club night has been brought forward to 7pm – that’s to make it easier for juniors to enter.

PLUS you may notice it’s going to be the chess variant Chess960 this week. This is easy to play, but you may want to read this first: https://chess960.net/how-to-play/
