Battersea Chess Club is fighting back against coronavirus by going fully online with two massive events.

First up on Sunday we will host our first online simultaneous match streamed live to the world against the Ginger GM himself, and a big friend of the club, GM Simon Williams.

All members are welcome to take part and see if they can beat him – and Simon will be commentating live on his Twitch channel to his followers.

The event will take place between 6pm and 8pm on chess.com and the time control is 45m+15s increment.

Anyone who wants to play needs to register with chess.com and email Aldo right now with their exact username (must be precise or it won’t work) and you will be on the roster.

Then you need to be online at 5.45pm. This is crucial.

El Chessico returns!

Our second big event is the El Chessico Online Edition, a monster match-up with Hammersmith, on April 7.

Your chess club needs you to defeat our old enemies.

The format will probably be two Rapid games against the same opponent, something like 25m+5s, and will take place on Lichess.org. More to follow!

Meanwhile, members should be aware the club has now formally ceased all face-to-face chess activities.

All over the board matches are postponed and the weekly club nights will now take place online. Details of how to get involved will be circulated.
