There was a match on Tuesday night.

It was a friendly match, called something silly. Bit of a joke really. Not very important.

Oh, Hammersmith won it 18 points to 11.

That is all.

Actually, that’s not at all true. Tuesday saw Battersea take on Hammersmith in El Chessico III – our now annual face-off between two of London’s most active clubs.

A day for debuts

Hammersmith ran out worthy victors and took home – presuming they didn’t get mugged on the way – the El Chessico trophy. Well done Hammersmith.

Here they are, celebrating:

Battersea fielded several new players making their graded game debuts boards 20 to 30 and it was here where Hammersmith turned the screw.

There were some good results for Battersea such as a draw for Tom Butterworth against the experienced Hammersmith veteran Nick Rutherford.

Tom’s game is here:

There was another excellent draw for Nereida Perdomo against a player with an estimated grade 30 points higher.

However, those two results aside Hammersmith dominated on the lower boards with Battersea’s only full point being a default.

The middle boards were a bit closer with Hammersmith edging this section 5.5-4.5.

Nikas Zaleskis and James Humphries both picked up smooth wins on debut while another newboy Zander Galbraith secured a draw.

On the top boards Hammersmith also dominated, winning 6.5-3.5, however there were good wins for Kazi Rahman and Joe Skielnik.
