Battersea dominated the weekend’s Hampstead Congress as Midhun Unnikrishnan scored a perfect 5/5 to win the tournament outright.

The 29-year-old ended with an incredible 2703 performance rating after coming up against two fellow Battersea players and a WFM.

One of those victories was a last round win over new signing Shreyas Royal, who went into the game also in contention to win on 3.5/4.

Shreyas finished 4th and gained 39 ELO points, which puts him in the top 3 rankings for his age group in the world ranking, and second in Europe.

There were also good performances from Tim Spanton who finished 6th and Gregg Hutchence in the U1900 section.

Gregg, playing up a section, finished an impressive 9th and gained 30 ELO.

Hampstead is a two-day weekend tournament with five rounds of Fide-rated chess played with Fischer timings. In total there were around 70 entrants.
