Jonny Pein scored a dramatic final round win to scoop the first “Spring” leg of our new 4-Seasons Rapid-play tournament.

The top seed, rated 215 ECF, overcame Conor Gay with the Black pieces to pip him to the title by 0.5 points.

The 21-year-old has now secured a place in the 4-Seasons final, to be played in December. The second leg, the Summer Rapids, is scheduled for June 25.

Battersea veteran Steve Barry (147 ECF) also placed significantly, beating Duncan Kerr (183 ECF) in the final round to finish runner-up with Conor.

Steve finished clear above higher rated players Paul Stokes (159) and Ted Udale (166) and England junior Sohum Lohia (149).
