Chris Rebbeck’s Battersea MI team were crowned champions of the London Chess League Minor division last night as their incredible run continued.

Going into this season’s final match at the Citadines, the Men for All Season needed just a draw against Hackney Gorki to secure the title.

Benefitting from two defaults and a draw for Gregg Hutchence, the team triumphed 2.5-1.5 to make it six wins in a row and finish the season unbeaten.

It ended the challenge from British Bangla Chess Association, who play tonight, and maintains Battersea’s dominance over the division which stretches back five years since it was formed.

In that period, the team has only lost four matches while amassing 34 wins and never finished outside the top two.

While there is no promotion from the 6th division, Battersea will pick up a cash prize to be award at the LCL AGM.

Meanwhile elsewhere in the hall, Bill Drennan‘s Battersea 3 team slipped to a 6-2 defeat against league leaders Lewisham and finish fifth in division 4.

Midhun Unnikrishnan‘s first team play their penultimate match tonight hoping to secure second place in division 1.

The final Battersea 1 match has been rescheduled to take place on June 12.
