Congratulations to Battersea’s second team skip Djuna Tree, who has reached England’s top 100 female players after her second place showing at the London Chess League Congress in February.

The March 1st ECF rating list saw Battersea Women’s #2 reach a classical rating of 1655, tying for 100th place in the nation’s highest ranked women and girls.

New Battersea member Geetha Prodhom stands to be even higher ranked when she enters the list, with a provisional rating of 1856 after six games for the club. An honourable mention too to Battersea Women captain Zoya Boozorginia, rated 1317.

The highlight of Djuna’s tournament success was an entertaining match against Javier Cabrera Ramos in the second round.

The explosive 31. Nxg6+!? is only good enough for a draw, but after 33. Rh1! Black must see that White intends to sacrifice not only her knight, but her dark squared bishop and both rooks. The only defence for Black was to exchange queens on b2.
