Battersea are proud to announce the 2023 London Women’s Chess Festival, welcoming teams from Lewisham Chess Club and Wimbledon Chess Club for classical games and social play.

This very special (and free!) event is a celebration of women’s chess, in preparation for the inaugural season of London’s first ever women’s chess league. Battersea will host at Battersea Labour Club on Tuesday August 22nd.

The evening starts at 6pm with an informal chess book study group — all visitors can join our club members’ studies or bring their own book or device.

At 7pm the main event kicks off, with social games for all visitors as well as an ECF rated 75+15 classical match. Battersea Women will be looking to crush the opposition in the spirit of friendly rivalry.

Battersea’s women’s team has grown following our spring campaign and recently elected a new committee with 50% female officers. We are pleased to welcome the newly formed Lewisham Women and Wimbledon Women as London women’s chess continues to expand and thrive. These events promote greater integration in open events as well as our dedicated women’s chess team.

Please contact us if you or your team would like to participate. All three clubs welcome new members, and the London Women’s Chess Festival is also open to additional entries from teams of any size and ability.

With more events coming in the next months for all players, we are excited to promote women’s chess.
