Club Tournaments Latest

At Battersea Chess Club we run a series of ECF-graded internal club tournaments.

The Club Championship was first held in 1885 when it was won by J F Sugden and – like the club – has operated continuously since. Here is the list of champions.

Here are the latest results, kept up-to-date by tournament controller Ben Franklin. Use the scroll bars to scroll right.

The Club Championship

This will be open to the eight highest graded applicants plus the Barrow tournament winner.
If the Barrow tournament winner chooses not to participate then the pool of applicants is increased to 9.
The time control will be a Fischer time control of 75mins plus 15 seconds per move.

The Barrow Tournament

This is open to the nine highest graded applicants. I’m not putting an upper bound on the grade for this tournament (since that’s a hard thing to judge) but my expectation is that this will be for people who have been unable to qualify for a place in the championship tournament. The time control will be a Fischer time control of 75mins plus 15 seconds per move.

The Rapidplay Tournament

This will be open to everyone. If we have at least 10 entrants then we will split the group into two double round robins with the top two players from each section qualifying for the semi finals of a knock-out competition. By double round robin I mean an all play all where you get to play two games against each opponent; one with each color. Otherwise, the champion will be the winner of a double round robin tournament. The time control will be a Fischer time control of 25mins plus 5 seconds per move.
