Hand and Brain – the RULES

Hand and Brain requires everyone to find a partner by methods mentioned below.

The pair sit at a chess board against their opponents. One acting as the ‘Hand’ and the other the ‘Brain’.

The ‘Brain’ calls out the piece and the ‘Hand’ must make a move with the piece that was declared.

The game continues will we reach a regular chess conclusion.

Every round the players on each team need to switch roles. The team can decide who starts as what.

Players will be sorted into 3 categories based on ECF strength:

Group 1 will be players graded 175 ECF upwards
Group 2 will be players graded from 140 to 174 ECF
Group 3 will be players graded up to 139 ECF

Group 1 and Group 3 players will be paired with each other and Group 2 players will be paired with each other.

Players have the options of finding their own partner following this rule. For anyone who doesn’t, their names will be picked at random against others in the other group.

Time control will be 4 minutes with a 2 second delay.

It will be Swiss pairings.

The tournament will have between 6 and 10 rounds. To be decided on the evening.
