Battersea players scored some fine individual results in this year’s London Chess Classic, with players competing in many of the tournaments at different levels and time limits.

In the FIDE Open,  Ali Hill scored the highest from our players with 5/9 including a draw against Indian IM Crg Krishna.  Adam Bukojemski and Viktor Stoyanov got 4.5 and Motejus Gudenas 3.5.

Koby Kalavannan and Tony Ashby competed in the Rapid Open, with Koby scoring an excellent 5/6 to finish 2= including a draw against IM and flank opening enthusiast Mike Basman and Tony getting 2/6.

Two of our youngest players Dennis Dupuis and Boris Stoyanov got very creditable 4/6 scores in the Rapid Under-1600, and the same pair both got 2/5 in the weekday under-1750 .

Ben Franklin had a particularly good tournament in the weekday under 2050 with 3.5/5 and a rating performance nearly 400 points above his ELO rating!  His wins included a fine victory against one of Battersea’s best former players  Dan Staples, who now  lives in York.  Ben also drew with WIM Natasha Regan, who has competed for England in the Women’s Olympiad.

Finally several Battersea players played in the Blitz, with very creditable first round performances in particular for Koby Kalavannan – 12.5/15, Adam Bukojemski 12 and Viktor Stoyanov 9.
