We have less than a week to go until our new team tournament, the Battersea Team Rapids, kicks off.

Well, let’s hope it doesn’t actually kick off, but you know what I mean.

The Team Rapids is competition between eight three-player teams designed to bring beginners and bad-asses together.

Top seed on board one, for example, is none other than Grandmaster Simon Williams, aka the Ginger GM.

Our board two are the middle range players and board three are the more modestly rated or unrated players.

There will be five rounds, the first round of which is based on seeding. Clocks will start next week at 7.15pm sharp for Round 1.

As there are an uneven numbers of rounds, which means two thirds of half the teams will get one more white than others.

It’s all going to depend on your team’s performances which will dictate subsequent round pairings. Each team will play only five of their seven opponents.

In order to try and get a clear winner after so few rounds we’ve opted to go with the following points system for each game…

  • Win = 3
  • Draw = 1
  • Loss = 0

The winner will be declared to the team with the highest number of accumulated game points. Which doesn’t necessarily mean the most amount of match wins.

All rounds times are listed below. Please make sure you are at your table at these times unless other instructions have been given.

Otherwise the clocks will start.

  1. Round 1 7.15pm – 7.55pm
  2. Round 2 7.55pm – 8.35pm
  3. Round 3 8.35pm – 9.15pm
  4. Round 4 9.15pm – 9.55pm
  5. Round 5 9.55pm – 10.35pm
