Battersea players have scored excellent results at this weekend’s Hampstead Congress, the only regular monthly slowplay in London.

In  the Under-2200 FIDE section Ali Hill finished 3=, just half a point off the first prize duo of Bao Nghia Dong from Vietnam and Nicholas Tavoularis from  Greece.  He went through the tournament unbeaten.

In the under-135 ECF the improving Tim Valentine, who has been playing a fair  number of congresses of late, was leading after the first day with a perfect 3/3.

A loss followed in round four, but he picked up to win in the last round to finish 2= on 4/5.

Finally in the under-1900 FIDE our promising junior Denis Dupuis also had a fine congress.

His 2.5  in four rounds played, including a win against highly experienced London tournament regular Salvatore Pepe  giving him a rating for the tournament of 1712, way above his FIDE rating of 1334.
