Battersea’s young guns blew away the opposition at the Delancey UK Chess Challenge Terafinal over the weekend.

Koby Kalavannan scooped £2,500 for winning the u18 section in Peterborough while Viktor Stoyanov was bang in contention until the last round when he lost to Koby.

Koby finished 5/6 while Viktor ended with 4/6.

In the u10s, Battersea had two prospects in action.

New member Luca Buanne and England junior Denis Dupuis finished 4th and 5th respectively but both tied on points with third on 4.5.

Luca’s most notable result was to beat the recently-crowned British u9 champion Rohan Pal with an exchange sacrifice in a tense endgame.

Denis’s only loss came to the eventual winner, rated 193.
